Appalachian Well Services, Inc. was founded by Doug Henson and Jack Albert as a Pennsylvania  Corporation in 1987.

Prior employment for the founders were The Western Company of North America, American Fracmaster and Universal Well Services with field experience in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas including staff positions in various Regional Offices and the Corporate Headquarters.

Since its inception, AWS has performed stimulation (frac) treatments and cement procedures of many varieties on thousands of wells for over 100 diverse customers throughout the area from locations in Shelocta and Bradford, PA. 

AWS considers employee and wellsite safety among our highest priorities.  A full safety committee, active safety award program, full time safety supervisor, and regular meetings have been a part of routine business for many years.  Both AWS and outside technical personnel conduct periodic safety presentations.  Customers are encouraged to attend all pre job on site safety meetings and all safety, MSDS specs, manuals and plans are all available to customers upon request.

AWS is an active participant in and in compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and NIOSH.  All applicable DEP and EPA guidelines are met utilizing NFPA standards.  Full compliance with FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) is assured.  MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheets) on all chemical additives and other products are available at all times at our facilities and on customer locations and wellsites. 

AWS currently has over 60 employees in two locations.  The expertise of these employees is among the best in the local industry and on par with any in the domestic US.  Many key employees have had extensive experience in the Southwest U.S. oil and gas producing areas providing a wide range of knowledge in differing well depths, pressures, temperatures, and production levels.  Due to the wide-ranging experience of these AWS employees, the company enjoys a reputation of excellent service quality.  Many employees have and continue to participate in outside training programs of both a technical and general nature.  Courses have been attended at local universities, Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, Dallas, TX and Houston, TX.

AWS operates from an 8 acre facility located on Rte 422 in Armstrong County, PA (9 miles from Indiana, PA).  Three buildings consisting of over 17,000 sq ft of warehouse, maintenance and fabrication shops and 2,400 sq ft of offices/locker rooms comprise the company’s main facility in Shelocta, PA.  Support facilities include storage, loading and blending plants for cement, sand, acid and fuel.  All meet or exceed local and federal HAZMAT, DEP and OSHA specs.

The Bradford facility consists of approximately 27,000 sq ft of maintenance and fabrication and maintenance shop and offices.

AWS maintains full liability and comprehensive insurance for all operations including general liability, performance, pollution, automotive, and workers compensation..    AWS is capable of, and has on several occasions, customized insurance coverages and limits to better fit the needs of specific customers and or their investor situations.
